Food, flavour, off flavours, packaging

Advances in sample preparation techniques prior to GC-MS analysis and the complicated matrices of the samples tested often result in a plethora of chromatographic peaks. It is difficult to be confident that co-elution of peaks is not occurring. This presentation will give examples of how often co-elution problems can occur when analysing complex samples like extracts from packaging materials and will show how the Pegasus HT TOFMS can be used to resolve «hidden» peaks, resulting in higher quality spectra and more accurate peak area determinations. Furthermore, the capability of ChromaTOF software to provide results quickly will be discussed. In addition to packaging, other examples illustrating the importance of peak deconvolution in flavour/off-flavour analysis for different food samples will be presented. Ключевые слова: масс-спектрометрия, вкус, GC-TOFMS, эффект матрицы, автоматизированный документооборот

Краткий обзор семинара:

The Eli Lilly Metabolomics platform, comprised of state-of-the-art instrumentation technologies, is capable of information delivery on hundreds of small molecules showing statistically significant biochemical alterations. The essential part of these technologies is high resolution GC-MS instrumentation. General workflow and technical details will be presented.

The value of GC-MS input in Metabolomics protocols will be illustrated with a case study of pancreatic cancer serum profiling. Metabolic pathway analysis using Ingenuity Systems allows for the integration of metabolomics and transcriptomics data. Pathway and network analysis provided the ability to pinpoint distinct metabolic pathways in PDAC patients that offer potential as novel biomarkers supporting patient segmentation

Recent Advances in High Resolution Mass Spectrometry in Environmental and Petrochemical Analyses https://ua.leco-europe.com/webinars-2-2-2/ https://ua.leco-europe.com/webinars-2-2-2/#comments Tue, 13 Nov 2012 09:00:04 +0000 http://ua.leco-europe.com/webinars-2-2-2/ After an extended absence from the spotlight, energy issues and related research are making their way back to center stage. However, the analytical landscape has changed a lot in the past 20 years, and selecting the right analytical platforms to provide the best “bang for your buck” has never been more difficult. Furthermore, with the development of high resolution MS alternatives to Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry (FT-ICR MS), the exact analytical requirements for petroleum and environmental applications become important to confidently determine the right MS platform for the job. More importantly, if the analytical performance of the chosen MS is not sufficient for complete, confident characterization of complex samples, the information content, utility, and confidence of the lower resolution measurements becomes paramount.
Here, we discuss the application of ultra-high resolution FT-ICR MS to environmental and petrochemical analyses and compare it to results obtained on the LECO High Resolution TOFMS. Potential applications of High Resolution TOFMS will be highlighted and discussed.

Advances in the Analysis of Dioxins and Related Compounds https://ua.leco-europe.com/webinar-1-3-2/ https://ua.leco-europe.com/webinar-1-3-2/#comments Sat, 20 Oct 2012 15:00:06 +0000 http://ua.leco-europe.com/webinar-1-3-2/ Dioxins
The analysis of dioxins and related compounds is one of the most challenging in analytical chemistry.  2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (2,3,7,8-TCDD) is one of the most toxic compounds known to man and therefore has been a key international target analyte for over 30 years. There are a number of other toxic dioxin-like compounds, including 16 other dioxin and polychlorinated furan congeners, as well as a number of other polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs), and halogenated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (HPAH) that are highly toxic. Most of these compounds are also bio-accumulative and persistent in the environment.

Due to the large number of compounds, extensive sample  preparation and analysis using highly efficient chromatographic methods with sensitive and selective mass spectrometric detection is required. This presentation will discuss the advances in sensitivity, selectivity, and productivity as a result of combining other analyte groups like halogenated flame retardants (HFRs), PCBs, and PCNs.

High-Throughput Screening of Abused Steroids in Urine Using Direct TOFMS and LC-High-Resolution TOFMS with Comprehensive Ion Fragmentation https://ua.leco-europe.com/webinar-1-4/ https://ua.leco-europe.com/webinar-1-4/#comments Wed, 03 Oct 2012 15:00:12 +0000 http://ua.leco-europe.com/webinar-1-4/ Workflows for monitoring abused chemical substances often use a high-throughput screening technique followed by an orthogonal technique to confirm positive results, a strategy that maximizes sample throughput while minimizing the chance of false positive results. Although these workflows typically use two independent technologies, a hyphenated chromatography-mass spectrometry system allows the same instrument to be used for both the initial high-throughput screening and confirmation. This complimentary e-seminar will introduce a new strategy and demonstrate the overall utility of high-performance TOFMS in the qualitative and quantitative analysis of abused drugs.
